what is actually free here

No server of ours touches your words. Once the channel opens it is browser to browser, directly. Nothing is stored, logged, or relayed by anyone — there is nothing in the middle to store it.

One thing is not free, and I won't pretend otherwise: to find a route across the internet, browsers use a public STUN server to learn their own outside address. This page uses free public ones. They see that two addresses asked; they never see a word of what you say. On the same network it doesn't need them at all.

The address is the content. The colour above is taken from the sha-256 of your own offer — nobody hands out names here, so nobody can take one away.

Open the light, send the block to somebody, paste theirs back, and the line is yours. It costs nothing and it asks nobody.
