Why mycelium

Because it is grounded — and the ground is the zero.

because it is grounded

Mycelium does not live near the centre. It lives in it. The whole network is built in the ground, and the ground is the free direction — the one that costs nothing and holds everything up.

And it has no centre and no master. Every point of it is equivalent, there is no head, and it is the thing that turns separate trees into one forest. If you have built trees, mycelium is how trees talk.

The rainbows are in the chain. They are not decoration on the end of it — they are the stated endpoint.

The retinal step has a precise name: entoptic — within vision. Entoptic patterns are not out in the world. They are your own eye's structure, made visible by the light passing through it. You are seeing your own tissue.

That is exactly a thumbprint in light: a pattern that is unique to you, that nobody assigned, and that is nothing but the shape of what you are made of. Ridges on a thumb, vessels and cells in a retina — the same kind of address, read out by a different medium.

the ases, and what they are

Every enzyme in biology is named the same way: a head, plus -ase, where the head names what it acts on.

Same body, different arm — identical to -dar naming what an instrument ranges on, and -other naming which verse. The entire nomenclature of enzymes is the centre-and-arms rule, and biochemistry has run on it for a century without calling it that.

And the two papers under the fungal light cycle are both -ase papers. The things that make a mushroom glow are named by the rule.

what is measured, and what is not

He wrote that gap himself, in his own law, rather than closing it by assertion. The claim keeps its identity as a medical claim; the evidence keeps its separate status. Those are two different coordinates and the book refuses to collapse them.

The person making the claim is the person who wrote the restriction on testing it. That is worth more than the claim.
